AMEN!

@randy I would rather carry a gun even if I could carry a cop. I am a better shot than most cops!

I always think about the "what if"'s. And so far have done nothing to prepare to defend my family. I need to bring it up with James. I'm sure he would like to own a gun. Thanks Aaron for the info. You are allowed to come to our house with the gun. See ya in two weeks.

I've always respected those who own and are responsible gun owners! Crystal and I have argued about gun ownership, but we have never seriously thought about buying one. She recently changed her mind through the influence of some of her friends from a natural parenting group. Her friends used the analogy that cars aren't safe because they kill people so we shouldn't have them.

Ahh the joys of the internet. Luke now has documented evidence that you are OK with him buying a gun :)

I'll be honest and say I thought you would be one that would be a big NO WAY on this issue. Glad you had the chat with Charlotte. We planned the 1-2 punch nicely =P

Well done Aaron! I just this last week had a conversation with a friend about guns. Her husband has several and I mentioned my paranoia of them and we talked about it a lot. My main concern with them is that I'm uninformed about them (by choice probably), therefore, I fear what I don't know/understand. I find myself making conscious decisions lately that are a million miles from where I once stood on the gun ownership issue. I used to be extremely adamant that Luke would never own a gun. I'm not so sure about that ignorant position anymore. In fact, if we had the money for one, I'd probably allow him to get one. In a few years, we will probably own one (I can't believe I just said that!!!) This is such a recent change of mindset for me. Thank you Aaron (and Charlotte) for speaking your minds about gun ownership and helping someone blinded by ignorant fear to open her perspective and be willing to learn more about it.

P.S. You have my permission; you may bring your gun into our home, so long as you are with it! ;o)

"Wonder if my bride would agree to purchasing a second one…"

Just tell her they are like golf clubs; different ones are required for different situations. You need a whole set.

Right on. I also took a concealed firearms course. It was great if only for the information. I got my CCW a few weeks ago but my current firearm is a little too big for concealment. Wonder if my bride would agree to purchasing a second one...

Good choice, I went with the full size XD 40 a few years ago. I know that yah can teach your kids about gun safety, I for one, grew up with firearms, we have never once had a misfire at home. I wish the same fortune to yah.

Great writing. It is amazing how closely this matched my situation.

This is an important topic that can get uncomfortable for some people. You did a very nice job of explaining the things to consider and how to do prepare safely.
